Neon veil was my first year video game, and my first time finishing a video game with a group of people.
We had to make a platformer game in unity, with any theme we wanted. With my team, we went for a Venice, masked carnival kind of aesthetic; Where you incarnate Anotis, a faceless low-class thief who dreams of reaching the upper city to attend to the masked ball.
It was the first time I'd done so much world building around a video game, and it further fuelled my love for creating universes and giving them life.

CHARACTER DESIGN
MAIN CHARACTER - ANOTIS

Anotis is the main character of the game; They are mostly anonymous, nothing is known about them except that their way of attacking are swift blades thrown at enemies.
I wanted a simple design but a striking one; Something closer to our cyberpunk/traditional aesthetic, with their mechanical arm and gas mask keeping them anonymous.
I got to discover animating puppets as well. I drew an entire separated model and animated it in Adobe Animate, then exported the sprites in Unity to slice them in the animator. Of course, the much more optimal way to do it now is rig the model directly in Unity then animate it with the recorder, but it was a nice introduction to puppet animation anyway.
SIDE CHARACTER - THE MERCHANT

The merchant is a side character I wanted to include more in the story, but due to inexperience and lack of time, he ended up being more of a tutorial character.
My intention was to create a goofy, yet still mysterious helper through Anotis' journey; Selling them upgrades, masks, and so on.
Not much is known about him. I got inspiration from the merchant in Resident Evil 4; A nameless yet iconic character through his voice lines and constant presence through the game.
